Hanging Heavy On My Eyes
Self-published
Hanging Heavy On My Eyes began as a year-long observation of the recurring situation in Singapore and its region of prolonged haze spells due to increased forest fires in neighbouring Indonesia contributing to severe air pollution conditions.
Consisting of 365 silver gelatin prints in this series, the artist recorded the highest and lowest Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) readings at noon daily and translated the data into corresponding exposure timings on the enlarger in a traditional darkroom.
This work recollects Ang's experience with the discomfort and unease of reduced and affected visibility – a result of conditions in human's continuous bid to control, intervene and manipulate landscapes and environment aligned to narrow-minded agendas.
