Swiss artist Roman Signer has been redefining sculpture for more than 40 years. He produces elementary dynamic sculptures and installations, also known as time sculptures for their preoccupation with the transformation of materials and objects through time.

In his actions, acceleration and change are part of the creative process and he uses photography and moving image to document his work. With a light approach, his work tackles modern concerns such as efficiency, performance or productivity as well as our deeply rooted obsession with functionality.

Signer’s skills are all turned towards the reproduction of a magic moment, almost ritualised by his work: the moment when slight transformation of shape and matter are possible.

Signer combines the simplicity of everyday gestures and materials to the complexity of technical devices and physical phenomena, activated without the necessity of keeping them under total control.
